GCC

GCC is the most-used compiler for ia64. The first release of gcc that supported ia64 was the unofficial 2.96 release. This version was used by most distributions in 2001.

GCC 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 have each produced better code for ia64, so we recommend you use the latest version you can find.

There was a GCC Summit for ia64 held in June 2001.

There is a wishlist for GCC improvements which seems rather out of date. A possibly more useful project list can be found on the GCC website.
